Preparing Your Landscape for the Dry, Hot North Texas Summer

Several clients have asked us how they can better prepare their landscape for our hot summer weather?  Here are some easy steps to implement:
* Use shrubs and flowers that are heat and drought tolerant.  Tender plants that are not hardy to our area require more water.  Surprisingly most roses are heat tolerant.  Pentas and moss rose did extremely well last summer.  * Mulch!  2-3 inches of mulch will hold in more moisture and protect the roots systems of your plants.
* Irrigation check – sprinklers systems need to be checked for leaks and timing.  Your system should be set on “summer” mode to conserve as much water as possible.  A rain guage set to your sprinkler system will prevent over watering when we do have rain.
